Summer is one of our favorite seasons to photograph—warm golden light, glowing skin tones, and carefree vibes that just feel like sunshine. Whether you're booking a family session, mini session, or something just for you, there are a few things to know that can help make your summer shoot smooth, fun, and full of memories.

1. Timing is Everything
Summer light is gorgeous, but it’s also strong. We always aim for that dreamy golden hour light—right after sunrise or just before sunset—for the best lighting conditions. It’s softer, more flattering, and helps keep everyone cooler, too!
If you’re booking with young kids, the later sunset time can be a factor—so plan accordingly with snacks, naps, or even an early bedtime the night before.
2. Dress for the Heat
Summer sessions can be warm, so keep comfort in mind. Choose breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, and flowy dresses or lightweight layers. Avoid anything too heavy or tight, especially for little ones.
Soft, light colors photograph beautifully in the summer and help keep you cool. Think pastels, whites, creams, soft blues, or earthy neutrals.

3. Hydration & Touch-Ups
Bring a water bottle for each person—especially if we’re shooting outdoors. A little hydration goes a long way in keeping everyone feeling good and looking fresh.
It’s also a good idea to pack a small bag with:
A hairbrush or comb
Makeup touch-up items (blotting papers, powder, lip gloss)
Snacks or bribes for kids (we don’t judge!)
4. Location Vibes
Summer offers tons of location options. When booking, let us know the feel you’re going for—soft and romantic, bold and vibrant, or something totally unique—and we’ll help choose the perfect spot.
Also: Be sure to check your reminder email for the exact location and arrival tips so there’s no confusion the day of your shoot.
