Here's the good news:

Your kids don't have to be perfect for us to create beautiful photos.

After photographing hundreds of families, I can confidently tell you that some of my favorite images have come from children who were shy, silly, wiggly, curious, or completely uninterested in looking at the camera.

And that's okay.

Because my goal isn't to create perfect children.

It's to create genuine memories.

The Best Photos Usually Happen Between the Poses

When people imagine family pictures, they often picture everyone standing perfectly still and smiling at the camera.

While we'll absolutely capture a few classic portraits, those usually aren't the images families end up loving the most.

Instead, it's often the in-between moments that become favorites.

Your Child Doesn't Need to Perform

One thing I always tell parents is this:

Please don't spend the entire session asking your child to smile.

Children naturally respond to pressure, and the more they feel like they're being asked to perform, the less likely they are to relax.

Instead, let me take the lead.

We'll play games.

We'll explore.

We'll race.

We'll look for rocks, flowers, or airplanes.

We'll tell silly jokes.

Sometimes the quickest way to get a genuine smile is to stop asking for one.

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

There are a few simple things you can do before your session to help everyone have a great experience.

• Make sure everyone has a snack before arriving.

• Avoid scheduling around nap time if possible.

• Let your children know you're going on a fun family adventure—not a photo shoot.

The calmer everyone feels, the more natural the session becomes.

Trust the Process

One of the biggest gifts you can give yourself on session day is permission to relax.

If your little one needs a cuddle, we'll pause.

If someone wants to explore for a minute, that's okay.

If we need to change the plan, we'll adapt.

I've photographed enough children to know that flexibility almost always leads to the best photographs.

You don't need perfect behavior.

You just need to show up ready to love on your family.
