We love capturing big families and multi-generational groups—it’s such a special way to freeze a moment in time with the people who mean the most to you. That said, we know large group sessions can feel a little overwhelming to plan. The good news? With a little preparation, they can be fun, smooth, and full of memories you’ll treasure forever. Here are our top tips for making it as easy as possible:

Six smiling adults stand together in a sunlit forest. Casual clothing, tattoos visible. Tall grass and trees in the background suggest a natural setting.

1. Communicate Early

The bigger the group, the more schedules there are to juggle. Start planning early so everyone can mark their calendars. We’ll help you lock in a time and location that works best for your group.

2. Coordinate Outfits (Without Being Matchy-Matchy)

Pick a color palette instead of identical outfits. Think “neutrals with pops of fall colors” or “shades of blue with cream accents.” This helps everyone look cohesive without feeling too staged.

3. Break Into Smaller Groups

We’ll always get a big group shot, but we’ll also take time for smaller breakdowns—grandparents with grandkids, siblings together, couples, etc. Knowing ahead of time which combinations you want makes the session go smoothly.

4. Arrive a Little Early

When a lot of people are involved, a few extra minutes can make a big difference. Plan for everyone to arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can get started right on time.

5. Assign a “Helper”

Having one point person in your group who knows the plan can help with gathering people, answering questions, and keeping everything moving without stress.

6. Relax and Have Fun!

The best photos come when everyone is enjoying themselves. Don’t stress if the kids get wiggly or if not every pose is “perfect”—those real, candid smiles are often the ones families treasure most.

✨ Large group sessions are all about celebrating family, connection, and legacy. With a little prep, the process can be simple—and the results will be memories you’ll cherish forever.
