Why the Golden Hour is Perfect for Photos

At Kate Buckles Photography, we often recommend scheduling your photoshoot an hour before sunset, also known as the "golden hour." This time of day offers the most ideal lighting conditions, creating stunning and memorable images. Here’s why:

Soft, Warm Light

During the golden hour, the sun is low in the sky, casting a soft, warm glow that adds a beautiful, natural radiance to your photos. This gentle light is flattering for all skin tones and creates a dreamy, ethereal quality that enhances every shot.

Gorgeous Colors

The warm tones of the setting sun bring out vibrant, rich colors in the landscape and your outfits. This time of day can make colors pop and add depth and dimension to your photos, making each image more dynamic and visually appealing.

Long Shadows and Depth

The low angle of the sun creates long, soft shadows that add texture and depth to your photos. These shadows can highlight details and create a sense of dimension, giving your images a more professional and artistic look.

Reduced Harshness

Midday sun can be harsh and create unflattering shadows and highlights. In contrast, golden hour light is diffused and even, reducing the risk of harsh shadows and blown-out highlights. This makes it easier to capture delicate moments of joy and laughter without worrying about tricky lighting.

Magical Atmosphere

The golden hour provides a naturally magical atmosphere, perfect for capturing intimate and emotional moments. Whether it’s a family session, an engagement shoot, or individual portraits, this time of day sets the perfect mood for beautiful, heartfelt photos.

By scheduling your photoshoot an hour before sunset, you’re taking advantage of the best lighting nature has to offer. (Don't worry though, we know all the tricks to make sure your photos are gorgeous regardless of the time of day!)
