Senior photos are one of the most exciting parts of your final year. But we get it—there are a lot of misconceptions floating around about what a senior session is supposed to look like. Whether you’re unsure if it’s worth doing, worried about being awkward, or just not sure what to expect, we’re here to clear the air!

Smiling graduate in red cap and gown stands on a tiled walkway with stone columns and arched ceiling. Bright, celebratory mood.

Here are 5 common senior session myths—totally debunked:

Myth #1: “I’m not photogenic, so I’ll look awkward in my photos.”Truth: Almost everyone feels this way at first. But trust me, it’s my job to help you feel comfortable, confident, and relaxed. With gentle guidance, natural posing, and plenty of fun along the way, we’ll capture the real you—smiling, laughing, and looking amazing (without it feeling forced).

Myth #2: “Senior sessions are just cheesy posed photos.”Truth: Not at all! Today’s senior sessions are so much more personal and creative. At Kate Buckles Photography, we focus on capturing your unique style and personality—whether that’s laid-back and natural, bold and edgy, or somewhere in between. These aren’t your parents' senior portraits—we promise.

Myth #3: “One outfit is enough.”Truth: Having a few outfit changes gives your gallery way more variety! You can go casual in one look, dressy in another, and even throw in something meaningful (like a team uniform or college tee). We encourage 2–3 outfits to show off all the different sides of you.

Myth #4: “I’ll just have a friend take a few photos on their phone.”Truth: While casual photos are fun, professional senior portraits are once-in-a-lifetime. They’re high-quality, beautifully edited, and timeless. These are the images you'll use for announcements, grad invites, gifts for family, and so much more. It’s worth investing in something that truly celebrates your journey.

Myth #5: “It’s too late to book a session.”Truth: It’s never too late! While we recommend booking early to snag your preferred season and date, we always try to accommodate seniors—even later in the year. Spring is especially gorgeous and popular for those finishing touches before graduation.

Bottom line? Your senior session should be fun, stress-free, and completely you.At Kate Buckles Photography, we’re here to guide you every step of the way—from planning outfits to choosing locations and everything in between.

Let’s capture this moment beautifully… and bust a few more myths while we’re at it.
