If you've booked your senior session (or you're thinking about it), chances are you've already started asking the biggest question of all...

"What am I going to wear?"

Don't worry—you are definitely not alone!

In fact, it's one of the first questions I get from almost every senior. The good news?

Choosing outfits doesn't have to be overwhelming. One of my favorite parts of the planning process is helping you create a look that feels authentic, timeless, and completely you.

Remember, these photos aren't about wearing the trendiest outfit of the year. They're about capturing who you are during one of the most exciting seasons of your life.

Start with What Makes You Feel Confident

My biggest piece of advice?

Wear something that makes you feel amazing.

Confidence is one of the most beautiful things you can wear, and it always shines through in photographs.

If you're constantly adjusting a dress, worried about a neckline, or wearing shoes that hurt after five minutes, it's going to be hard to relax and enjoy the experience.

Choose pieces that fit well, feel comfortable, and reflect your personal style.

Whether that's a flowy dress, your favorite pair of jeans, a cute jumpsuit, boots, sneakers, or something a little more elegant, your session should feel like you, not someone you're pretending to be.

Variety Makes Your Gallery More Meaningful

I always recommend bringing two or three outfits so we can create a gallery with lots of variety.

Some ideas include:

✨ A casual outfit you love to wear.

✨ A dressier outfit for a more polished look.

✨ Something that reflects your personality or hobbies.

This gives us different looks without feeling like an entirely different person in every photo.

By the end of your gallery, you'll have images that feel playful, classic, relaxed, and elegant—all while still feeling completely authentic.

Think About Your Location

One of the reasons I love helping seniors plan their session is because outfits and locations work together.

A flowing dress looks beautiful against the white dunes of White Sands.

A cozy sweater pairs perfectly with the golden colors of fall.

A cute sundress feels right at home in a mountain meadow.

A classic outfit can create a modern, timeless look in an urban setting.

When we plan your session together, we'll make sure your wardrobe complements your location instead of competing with it.

It's those little details that make your final gallery feel beautifully cohesive.

Don't Forget the Little Details

The little things matter more than you might think.

Take a few minutes before your session to think about:

  • Shoes

  • Jewelry

  • Hats

  • Hair accessories

  • Jackets

  • Layers

  • Freshly cleaned shoes

  • Wrinkle-free clothing

You don't need a suitcase full of accessories.

Sometimes the simplest outfits photograph the most beautifully because they keep the focus exactly where it belongs—on you.

You're Not Doing This Alone

One of my favorite parts of the senior experience is helping you prepare long before photo day.

If you're deciding between two dresses...

Wondering which shoes work best...

Trying to decide if that hat is too much...

Send me a picture!

Seriously.

I'm always happy to help you narrow down your choices and create outfits that photograph beautifully together.

I want you to arrive at your session feeling excited and confident—not stressed.

Because when you're relaxed, your personality shines, and those are always the images everyone loves the most.

Kate's Tip

Lay all of your outfits out on your bed a few days before your session.

Try on the complete outfit—including shoes and accessories—and take a quick mirror photo.

Not only will this help you make sure everything works together, but it also gives us time to make any changes if something doesn't feel quite right.

Your Style Tells Part of Your Story

Years from now, you'll smile when you look back at these photographs.

Not just because of what you were wearing...

But because they'll remind you of who you were.

Your confidence.

Your excitement.

Your dreams.

Your personality.

That's what I hope to capture during every senior session.

So don't worry about finding the "perfect" outfit.

Let's choose outfits that feel like you, celebrate this incredible milestone, and create photographs you'll be proud to look back on for years to come.
