🍼 Why the First Two Weeks Are the Sweet Spot for Newborn Photos

There’s nothing quite like those first days with your new baby. The snuggles are sweeter, the tiny details are unforgettable, and your heart is fuller than you ever imagined. As a newborn photographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing hundreds of these tender moments—and I can confidently say: the first two weeks are truly the best time to photograph your newborn.

Here’s why timing matters and how planning ahead ensures we capture your baby at their sleepiest, tiniest, and most magical stage.

✨ 1. Sleepy + Snuggly = Picture Perfect

During the first 14 days, babies are still very sleepy and more easily posed in those curled-up, womb-like positions. This allows us to gently guide them into sweet, natural poses without disturbing their peaceful rest.

Once babies hit that 2-3 week mark, they become more alert and less likely to stay in that deep newborn sleep we need for classic newborn portraits.

✨ 2. Fewer Baby Aches + Breakouts

Around week 2 or 3, babies may start to experience more gas or discomfort as their digestive system develops, which can lead to fussiness. They also often develop baby acne or dry, flaky skin. While we can always work around this and edit where needed, those first two weeks often give us the smoothest, most calm little models.

✨ 3. They Change So Fast

It’s incredible how much your baby changes in just a few short days. That tiny, curled-up newborn look begins to fade quickly as they stretch out, grow, and become more alert. Capturing those early details—like their tiny fingers, squishy cheeks, and fresh newness—preserves memories you’ll never want to forget.

✨ 4. Your Session, Your Pace

In those early weeks, everything is new. We build our newborn sessions to be calm, comfortable, and completely baby-led. You’ll never feel rushed. There’s time for feedings, diaper changes, snuggles, and anything else you or your baby needs. It’s a quiet space to just soak in your new little love—and walk away with images you’ll cherish forever.

💌 Let’s Plan Ahead

Because timing is so important, we recommend reaching out before your baby is born—ideally in your second or early third trimester. We’ll pencil in your due date and keep things flexible, adjusting as needed once baby arrives. That way, we’re ready to go during that perfect 5–14 day window.
