The Fourth of July is one of the most festive times of the year—fireworks, red, white, and blue everywhere, and a spirit of celebration that’s contagious! At Kate Buckles Photography, we love capturing that joy against the stunning backdrop of New Mexico’s canyons. If you’re joining us for a Fourth of July canyon photo session, here are some tips to help you prep and make the most of your shoot.

Dress the Part

  • Comfortable, Season-Friendly Outfits – The canyon can be warm in July, so breathable fabrics and lightweight layers are your best friend.

  • Shoes – Expect a little adventure! Sandals, sneakers, or wedges that can handle rocky terrain are a great choice even those walking is minimal


Be Ready for the Outdoors

  • Stay Hydrated – Bring water, especially for kids. A cool drink makes the session more comfortable.

  • Bug Spray & Sunscreen – Canyon sessions are beautiful, but nature loves to join in too!

  • Wipes or Towels – Quick clean-ups help keep everyone fresh and photo-ready.
